About the Exhibition
Under the title Focus > Europe, a selection of works by artists who participated in the residency programme as part of the European art scholarship of the District of Upper Bavaria in the previous year is presented each year. The art exchange of the District of Upper Bavaria is a programme for actively strengthening democracy and promoting long-term intercultural creative networking.
Within the annual theme of Game and Chance at the Schafhof 2026, the PlayFullY exhibition focuses on how playful approaches can be used to gain unexpected and thus inspiring perspectives on a wide variety of situations in our lives. At the same time, the second meaning of the word also resonates: the danger of losing something, of ‘gambling it away’. With their free and experimental works, contemporary artists sensitise our view to the constant changes in the environment, everyday life and society.
This change takes place during personal encounters and through impressions gained during the art exchange: as guests, the artists bring something new to their place of residence, take new impressions and experiences home with them and convey these in their works of art. The general public can share in these experiences in the exhibition through the supporting programme.
