About the exhibition LISTENING

Every year, the artists, who have taken part in the residency programs with partner institutions from all over Europe, are introduced under the title "Focus > Europe". The exhibition "Focus > Europe V“ presents the works of 16 artists of the art exchange program in 2023.

Within the annual theme of "Stories" at Schafhof 2024, the focus of the exhibition is on the act of listening: this means that in addition to the act of listening, attention is also focused on what is happening. Beside the acoustic signal, visual stimuli and other information are also processed. Furthermore, there are always two sides to a story - telling and listening. There is an exchange of ideas and experiences, which creates a sense of community.

This also takes place as part of the residency program in the form of personal encounters and the works of art shown later: As guests, artists observe people and culture during their stay, thus "listening" with open eyes and ears to their new surroundings and incorporate this experience into their works. The public can share these impressions in the exhibition.
