Ádám Varga
Ádám Varga studied painting at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts between 2014 and 2019 and studied graphics at the Art Academy of Latvia in Riga in 2017. In 2019, he was an Erasmus+ scholarship holder and intern at the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst in Leipzig, where he worked primary on realizing exhibitions and collection management. In 2019 and 2020, he was one of the winners of the Derkovits Prize for young emerging artists in Hungary. In 2022, he was one of the nominee for the MODEM contemporary art museum award in Debrecen.
In addition to his artistic activities, he is a member of the Studio of Young Artists Association, also an art mediator at PINCE artist-run space in Budapest and is involved in the realisation of several independent exhibitions and projects. Between 2019 and 2021, he worked as an employee of Erika Deák Galéria.
My artistic approach is based on understanding the role of production and reproduction in art, and I consider both individual and social aspects of the subject to be important. In this context, I am mostly interested in the dialectic between manual and technical reproduction, the painterly aspects of reproduction and the investigation of transformation through analogue and digital concepts. In addition to making objects, I also strive to stay flexible, to be able to articulate a more reflexive practice that focuses on the social and problematic nature of painting.
