About the exhibition

As part of the expansion of the district’s concept of international art partnerships, the ‘tandem exhibitions’ format offers new opportunities to intensify European art exchange, make it more sustainable and bring it even closer to audiences in Upper Bavaria. As a special continuation of the REMIX series, one artist from abroad and one from Upper Bavaria – both of whom have previously taken part in the residency programme – are once again being invited.

Collaborative work on the exhibition

The basic idea is that, by developing a joint exhibition, we can create the conditions for the participants to get to know one another professionally and encourage a long-term, active exchange of ideas and collaborative work amongst them. The Hungarian artist Judit Lilla Molnar spent two months in Freising in 2023, whilst Lina Zylla spent two months in Linz in 2024.

Thematic link

Thematically, the tandem exhibition is linked to the annual theme in order to provide visitors with a broader context. The theme for 2026 is ‘Play and Chance’; the exhibition title *SpielRäume* refers to the two artists’ work with spaces and psychological themes: interior and exterior, emotional and rational, construction and deconstruction.
