Guided tour of the garden, buildings and history of the Schafhof – from the royal sheep barn to its development as part of the Weihenstephan experimental farm to its reopening as the European Art Forum of the District of Upper Bavaria.
The experienced Freising city guide Robert Forster begins with the landscapes that have shaped the city of Freising and tells of the historical events at the beginning of the 19th century, the time when the Schafhof was founded. He also discusses the development of Bavarian agriculture and the natural areas of the region. As an eyewitness he reports about the last decades, e.g. about the legendary ski jump built by the people of Freising themselves. In the building, among other things, the historic barrel vault is presented.
Before or after the tour it is possible to visit the current exhibition of the Art Forum and also Café Botanikas –with sun terrace and panoramic view, coffee specialties and homemade cakes as well as a small selection of freshly prepared bistro-style dishes.
